Pagany: A Native Quarterly - 12 issues (Complete)

Boston: Richard Johns, 1930-1933.

Price: $2,000.00

Softcover. Full run of 12 issues. Edited by Richard Johns. All perfectbound quartos. Overall near fine with some toning and a small chip at the spine of one issue and two others with splash marks, but all in remarkably nice condition. This influential but short-lived literary magazine started by Johns with assistance from William Carlos Williams (from whose 1928 novel, *A Voyage to Pagany*, Johns derived the title). Unfettered by commercial concerns the magazine was able to focus on literary criticism and experimentation with contributions from numerous important writers and artists of the early and mid-20th Century, including Williams (substantial sections of *White Mule* appear here), Jean Cocteau, Jean Toomer, Katherine Ann Porter, John Cheever, Robert McAlmon, Kenneth Rexroth, Charles Henri Ford, Norman Macleod, Witter Bynner, Louis Zukofsky, Yvor Winter, Harry Crosby, Erskine Caldwell, Gertrude Stein, Conrad Aiken, James T. Farrell, Edward Dahlberg, E.E. Cummings, Mary Butts, John Dos Passos, Carl Rakosi, Ezra Pound, and many others.
