A young man’s travel album featuring pictures from 1897 through the 1920s. The compiler travels around different places including New York, California, New Hampshire, Maine, and Massachusetts visiting several observatories, mountain ranges, lakes, and farms. There are also several photos of the city scape of New York City with overhead shots showing the rooftops of buildings, train tracks and stations. Photos from San Francisco show the Golden Gate Bridge while the man was walking on it. The photographs are all well done, if not professionally shot, and are well composed. There are nature photography shots featuring large and small lakes surrounded by foliage and winding forest paths as well as beautiful mountain photographs with snow caps and fog around the mountain. Mt. Agassiz, Mt. Hafayette, Eagle Cliff and Echo Lake are just a few of the places captioned in the photographs. Several animals are also pictured including cats, chickens from a poultry farm, cows, horses, and colts. There are some pictures of biking competitions with various people racing on bikes and one picture of two large tires with several people pushing them along. Each tire is double the height of the people around it. There are a couple pieces of ephemera including two newspaper cut outs of poems, one of which is Percy Hickethorpe’s “Love Appeal”. A few articles about the town of Strong, Maine are also included, which the young man had a particular interest in. The articles go over the town’s battles between the settlers and the Native Americans and the town’s slow but progressively declining population. While the majority of the photos are from the early 20th century the newspaper clippings are taken some time after 1920, as one article talks about the population decline in Strong, Maine after 1920.

An interesting collection of travel photographs taken between 1897 and 1920.
