Boards a trifle rubbed, two leaves with corners folded (a printing flaw) still a fine copy. The author fell ill and died during the writing of this work and it was completed by his wife. Idiosyncratic work of political theory by a preacher, partisan guerilla soldier, Civil War veteran, and later a Missouri educator, politician, and Congressman who moved to California and later Colorado. He also wrote an important memoir of his war experiences. Uncommon.
