Signed and dated in the year of publication presumably by the author's sister "S[arah]. M[atilda]. Mitchell" on the title page and blank preliminary. Silas Weir Mitchell was a nineteenth century Philadelphia physician and Thomas Jefferson University alumni with his specialty being in neurology. He authored these six essays for every physician in particular the "weak and nervous" woman: "The Physician", "Convalescence", "Pain and Its Consequences", "The Moral Management of Sick or Invalid Children", "Nervousness and Its Influence on Character", "Out-Door and Camp-Life for Women."
