Hardcover. Oblong octavo measuring 8 “x 6". String tied, brown cloth over flexible boards with gilt decorations. Contains 85 gelatin silver black and white or sepia toned gelatin silver photographs with some hand coloring measuring between 2” x 1.5” and 8” x 6” with captions. Lightly bumped corners with small tears, near fine with fine photographs.
A young New Jersey man’s photo album of his family and his professional work as an aspiring photographer from the early 1900s. The photographs are well composed and aesthetically pleasing from various places in New York, New Jersey, and Canada. Some of the photos are of the man’s family posed together for a group photograph but most of the pictures are portraits and fashion photography of young women posed and dressed well. He takes pictures of the landscape and places he visits such as the Statue of Liberty and Staten Island in New York, American Falls in Canada, and places around Sea Bright, New Jersey where he lived. Several photos are of ornate archways and cathedrals showing the distinct gothic architecture with flying buttresses and spires. Some of these photographs are hand colored, presumably by the photographer. Photos with special effects are included with duel exposure photographs and several multiplicity photographs, where the young man in seen several times within the same photo, posing in different ways.
