London: Kodak Limited, 1905-1906.
Hardcover. Quarto. Blue cloth with meander design stamped in black and blind, and "Kodak" in gilt on front board. Thick card leaves with all edges gilt. Some foxing on the album leaves, but otherwise tight and fine, with the images strikingly bright. The album contains 96 glossy albumen images each measuring approximately 5" x 4" and housed two to the page in slots in the card sleeves. A few of the images are sparely but efficiently captioned.
A travel album which includes the animals and their keepers at the Cairo Zoo, the Pyramid at Cheops, preparations for the April 1906 visit of the Prince of Wales, the Khedives Accession Day Review of Native Troops, the dock at Alexandria, the ships S.S. *Ramese* and S.S. *Mamonia*, a "Bedouin Bergass" (the equivalent of a race or rodeo), shipboard images, photos of a stop in Malta and Gibraltar in the distance, and more. Four of the images show British tennis player and four-time Wimbledon singles champion R. F. Doherty. Not mounted in strictly chronological order, a couple are dated in 1905 and 1906, but all seem to be from the same trip.
Especially bright and compelling images of the Middle East and Mediterranean countries.
