[Loose Photographs]: Massachusetts Nurses Cabinet Cards

Massachusetts: 1890s.

Price: $500.00

Unbound. A collection of 6 sepia-toned cabinet cards measuring 4.25" x 6.5". Some slight abrasions and rubbing thus very good. A small assemblage of cabinet cards depicting uniformed nurses from Massachusetts in the 1890s. The women are from Pittsfield, Boston, Worcester, and Malden, and the photos include the stamp of photography studios from those towns. The studios include F.E. Seabury, Rice, Holden, C.R. Hollis, Nowell, and F.F. Dunshee. Three of the photos have captions written in pencil on the verso one of which simply reads "Lynch - Lovingly Luna." The other two captions read, "House of Mercy - Nettie Wise R.N.;" and "Rhoda Lawson Mt. Desert Island, Maine 3-31-1893." Although this second photo is captioned in Maine the photo itself bears the stamp of a Massachusetts photography studio in Worcester. Each womanly is seen smartly dressed in her uniform, Rhoda Lawson has a pen tucked into the buttons of her blouse and many of them are seen with pocket watches. One of the photos shows two nurses, one standing, and one seated, the standing nurse is holding a pen.

A nice collection of portraits of 1890s nurses in the Massachusetts area.
