A small calendar booklet for the year 1917 written in by Lieutenant Joseph E. Burchill. The booklet is mostly filled in with Burchill’s personal information and upcoming events as well as friend’s addresses. It also includes some small poems written by Burchill, “As a beauty I’m surely no star: There are others more hansome(sic) by far; But may grace, I don’t mind it, Because I’m behind it! It’s the people in front get the jar!” The last entry is written as October 4th, 1917 but several pages have 1918 written in, and the 1918 calendar is crossed out until the 4th. While mostly written while he was serving in France, the war content is minimal. Burchill fought in World War I and died in combat while stationed in France on October 9th, 1917.
