Price: $1,200.00

Hardcover. Small quarto. Measuring 8" x 10". Three quarter black leather with black cloth. Very good with edgewear, rubbing, and some age-toning. A remembrance album begun in 1914 and continued until 1931 that collects hundreds of poems and songs about World War One. The album is filled from beginning to end with typed pages, newspaper clippings, and cards all featuring poetry pertaining to The Great War, and appear to be the work of Nora M. Mills. Included are several typed poem by Mills, along with a printed song sheet crediting her with the lyrics and a poem ("Mother Hood") on a card. Most pages feature multiple newspaper clippings of poems on a single page; notable inclusions include a pamphlet features an early separate printing of "In Flanders Fields" by John McCrae (circa 1921) and a typed sheet with the poem "I Vow to Thee, My Country" by Cecil Spring-Rice. Other titles poems include: “The Kaiser and God,” “England First,” and “The Kaiser in 1914.” One section of poems features American-centric themes with a title “America’s National Songs” which includes the “Battle Hymn of the Republic” and “The Star Spangled Banner.” Interspersed among the poems are short handwritten letters and notes from friends and small pamphlets. After the war the compiler continued to collect war remembrance poetry for Armistice Days until 1931. An unusual but pleasing assemblage of World War One-themed poetry.
