Sarkana Pal dz ba. [Red Aid]. N. 3; N. 4/5

[Latvia]: C. K. Izdevums; Sarkana pal dz ba Spiestuve, [1933].

Price: $1,400.00

Softcover. First editions. Two issues. 13; 44pp. Mimeographed. In original stapled illustrated wrappers. Slightly yellowed, somewhat nicked at edges, but still easily very good. Rare issues of this Latvian underground, anti-fascist, pro-communist magazine of the Red Aid. Issue number 3 features a giant head of Adolf Hitler supervising a massacre of workers by Nazi soldiers wearing swastika-armband; on the rear wrapper a similarly sized Mussolini-head supervises the stabbing of man, the text reads: “Nost! Fasismu!” (Away with Fascism!). The cover of issue 4/5 illustrates the first article of the magazine “Pret jauno sodu likarmu” (Against the New Penalty Law), with the images of hanged men, prison, handcuffs, swastika, and barbed wire. Very scarce. We could only trace copies of these two numbers in the Ainars Ikstens collection of the Hoover Institution Archives.
