Hardcover. Oblong octavo. Measuring 7" x 5½". Black cloth over stiff paper boards with "Photographs" stamped in gilt on the front board. Contains 115 sepia-toned or black and white gelatin silver photographs measuring between 1" x 1" and 3½" x 4½", with captions. Very good album with tears, worn edges, several pages detached but present, and some waviness, with near fine photographs.

A photo album kept between 1911 and 1914 by a family in New England. The album begins in Rhode Island with photos of the General Burnside statue in City Hall Park (now Burnside Park) followed by several of early airplanes (“Captain Baldwin biplane" and “Dr. Walden monoplane”). Additional photographs from around Rhode Island include the library in Providence and a railroad station. Photographs from New York show a Marine band on Broadway which reads “taken at the celebration of the unveiling of the Maine Monument 1913.” A later photo shows the newly erected monument and the dedication ceremony. Other images show family members in New Hampshire posed at the summit of Mt. Lafayette and canoeing on Echo Lake. The family also visits Canada with several images showing the former home of the mother and father, along with images of men “ice harvesting.” Photos from 1913 show a trip on the St. Lawrence River and a visit to Thousand Islands, New York. Throughout the album are family homes, new cars, friends, and relatives that were visited over a four-year period including candids and portraits.

A nice collection of early 20th Century photography with an emphasis on travel and early aviation.
