[Photo album]: Detroit Family Camping on the Shores of Lake Michigan

Detroit and Lake Michigan: [circa 1900].

Price: $700.00

Softcover. Oblong octavo. String-tied stiff pages, with flexible card rear board. Lacking the front board, crease and small nicks on the edges of the pages else very good, images near fine. 40 gelatin silver photographs. 4.5" x 3.75". A couple of images are detached but present. About the first half of the album is captioned. Nicely composed images of a camping trip on Lake Michigan. The album begins with an image of a boathouse captioned "Camping Out Landing Place", and the first 15 images shows a prosperous and relatively large family camping out in two tents. The family is shown pitching the tents, cooking out, washing dishes (and themselves), rowing, swimming, packing up, and otherwise merrily disporting themselves. After this section, they take a small lakeboat to a rustic log cabin where the vacation continues, and finally there are several images on the boat, culminating in the arrival in Detroit (identified by the harbor side warehouses) with a few images in the harbor. A pleasant and nicely composed little album, with good quality images.
