[Photo Album]: YWCA OH! Club - College Women in the Midwest

Various Midwest locations: mostly 1913-1918.

Price: $1,200.00

Softcover. Small oblong octavo. Measuring 8" x 6". Alligator patterned cloth over flexible card. 110 mostly sepia-toned gelatin silver prints. The majority are approximately 4.5" x 2.75" with a few larger. About half are captioned. Small stain on one board, images with a little fading, very good or better, images near fine.

The images follow a group of cheerful young women, members of the "Oh! Club" (possibly at Ohio University). The women are shown in large groups starting in 1913 at banquets, at initiations which includes a photo of all the women blindfolded, at a slumber party, a farmer's party, a Christmas party, a "Stag" party, etc. Many of the photos are of the girls traveling as a group to several Midwest locations: the Oh! Camp at Cedar Bluffs, (Nebraska?); at another Oh! Camp at Valley Park, (Missouri?); on a "St. Louis-Mazda Boat Excursion"; north of St. Louis at Chain of Rocks; at "Chautauqua" (which could be one of any number of places). In several of the images the women are dressed as men. The photos are dated through 1917 and show the women delighting in each other’s company. There are photos of them in bathing costumes at various Oh! camps, hiking, and posing on a ship.

A nice collection of photographs depicting an organization for young women in the early part of the 20th Century.
