My Lady's Garter

Chicago: Rand McNally, (1912).

Price: $75.00

Hardcover. First edition. Decorative pale blue cloth stamped in dark blue, white and gilt. Illustrated by F.R. Gruger. Moderate wear to the cloth, overall very good. The exotically named Futrelle was actually born in Pike County, Georgia, and among other things, founded the Sports Department at the *Atlanta Journal*. Futrelle created the character of Professor van Dusen, better known as the consulting detective, "The Thinking Machine." This mystery, featuring the gentleman-thief "The Hawk" and the disappearance of a Countess's garter, was published the same year Futrelle went down with *The Titanic* (his wife, traveling with him, survived). Basis for a 1920 film directed by Maurice Tourneur.
