"Philip" or The Autobiography of a "Dope Fiend"

Chicago: Demarest Book Concern, 1923.

Price: $300.00

Softcover. First edition. 12mo. 16pp. Stapled printed wrappers. Stapled oxidized, else very near fine. Sin-to-salvation narrative of "Philip", a Swedish immigrant, who arrived in New York, found work as an anesthetist's assistant, but soon becomes addicted to opium and alcohol. After two years of colorfully-described iniquity, involving gambling, drug addiction, and the intravenous injection of quarts of whisky at a time, Philip is finally saved through the agency of Victoria Booth-Clibborn (granddaughter of Salvation Army founder William Booth; later Mrs. Agnew Demarest, "Grand Dame of Evangelism"). This pamphlet, issued by Demarest's own publishing company was likely produced for sale at her famous revival meetings. *OCLC* locates no copies.
