Francis Chauncy's dustjacket art of running halfback football player. Original black and white painting, Signed by the artist, on thick textured paper measuring 14.75" x 18.25", tipped on artist's board with a few small penciled measurements and production notes in the board margins. Light smooth glue stain on the back of the sheet, near fine. Joe Archibald, known for his incisive, in-depth sports novels, here tells the story of a coach at an elite University compelled to fight the school's Brahmans in order to create a winning football team. A fine, impressionistic drawing by Chauncy, who illustrated many of Archibald's books. Accompanied by a very good ex-library copy of the book in very good dustwrapper (sunned at the spine) for comparison.
