Penciled ownership signature dated in 1877 (see below for possible significance), slight tears in the cloth at the spine ends, and a little light rubbing, else a nice, tight, near fine copy. Author's first book. *BAL* 1954 notes this San Francisco variant, but specifies the date of 1878 on the title page, *Wright III* 790 conforms to *BAL*. *OCLC* seems to locate no copies with this 1877 San Francisco imprint.
