London: Macmillan and Company, Limited, 1904.

Price: $850.00

Hardcover. Large cloth portfolio (measures approximately 17.5" x 24"). Three letterpress sheets and complete set of 40 black and white and color mezzotint engravings. Each engraved sheet is enclosed within a printed folded guard sheet. Publisher's original full cloth over boards with gilt spine and gilt centerpiece stamped on the front cover. Ex-library copy with spine letters, bookplate, and perforated stamp affecting all 40 engraved images: on most engraved sheets about half of the perforated stamp affects the printed image, usually at an upper corner or on one side. Some darkening and fading to the cloth portfolio, the front board and one inner cloth flap are detached, scattered tears along the joints and inner flaps at the folds, else very good: all 40 plates are bright, clean, and supple. A beautiful set of William and James Ward's classic genre portraits of women.
