Biography

French-born teacher and humanitarian who moved to Pennsylvania, became a Quaker. He published his observations on slavery, alcoholism, Quakers, and Indians in A Caution to Great Britain and Her Colonies (1766), An Historical Account of Guinea (1771), The Mighty Destroyer Displayed (1774), A Short Account of the People Called Quakers (1780), and Some Observations ... on the Indian Natives of This Continent (1784).more
