The unopened gatherings of volume one are un-sewn and thus loose with the wraps detached, else a very good set with scattered chipping to the wraps. Contains "The Beginnings of French Settlement of the Mississippi Valley," by Peter Joseph Hamilton, a prominent Alabama lawyer and historian who also served as Judge of the United States District Court for the District of Puerto Rico (Sept., 1902), "Forgotten Southern Authors," by Andrew J. Miller (May, 1903), "Recollections of the Growth and Development of the Anit-Slavery Sentiment," by Judge William D. Wood (July, 1903), and many other critical articles and documents pertaining to the American south. The January 1903 number reprints a letter from Edgar Allan Poe (a plea for money), to William Poe, a second cousin, who resided at the time in Augusta Georgia. Publication ceased with Vol. 2, no. 5/6 (Mar./May 1904).
