Visual Anthropology: Photography As a Research Method

Albuquerque: University of New Mexico Press, (1986).

Price: $500.00

Softcover. Revised and expanded edition. Tall octavo. Glossy photographic wrappers. 248pp., illustrated. Spine sunned, else near fine. From the library of the artists Ben Shahn and Bernarda Bryson Shahn, with an estate label designed by their son, Jonathan Shahn. Inscribed to Bernarda Shahn: "for Bernarda from Mary & John This is where John's work went after FSA." Collier was an FSA and SONJ photographer who went on to be one of the founders of Visual and Applied Anthropology, and this book became the standard textbook in the field. Ben Shahn was also one of the FSA photographers whose collective work probably transformed American photography. A nice association.
