Softcover. Printed self-wrappers. Octavo. 117, [4]pp. A little soiling and small, faint stains on the wrappers, else near fine. Signed: "Compliments of Hiram Maxim. See page 69." Page 69 begins a speech by Maxim, which he has corrected in pencil. Maxim was the brother of the inventor of the Maxim gun, and was himself a renowned inventor. As well as inventing a color printing process for the *Evening Journal* of Pittsfield, Massachusetts, which some claim was the first newspaper in the U.S. to print a daily edition in color, Maxim was an inventor of explosives, particularly smokeless gunpowder, the patent of which he sold to DuPont in 1897.
