Sketch of the Life and Public Services of Hon. James Hillhouse
New Haven: [Privately Printed], 1860.
Price: $125.00
Hardcover. First edition. Printed brown wrappers bound in quarter cloth and papercovered boards gilt. 46pp. Portrait frontispiece engraving. Corners slightly bumped, near fine. Presentation inscription dated in 1891 from Margaret P. Hillhouse to her nephew Thomas Hillhouse, Jr., tipped-in. We suspect the binding was prepared for presentation, as it is consistent with the 1891 date. Hillhouse represented Connecticut in both the U.S. House and Senate, and was responsible for much of the current look of New Haven. For many years he was the treasurer of Yale University.
