Hoskins' writing skill was praised by many of her contemporaries, including Wallace Stevens, John Crowe Ransom, Robert Lowell, and Malcolm Cowley, all of which she corresponded with regularly. She won the 1957 Brandeis University Creative Arts Award and received a Guggenheim Fellowship the following year.
