Daughter of the poet Richard Le Gallienne, Eva was a distinguished actress, producer, and director. She founded the Civic Repertory Theatre in New York in the 1920s. In 1964 she was presented with a special Tony Award celebrating her 50th year as an actress and honoring her work with the National Repertory Theatre. In 1977 she won a Theatre World Special Award, and in 1986 she received the National Medal of Arts. Le Gallienne directed the first Broadway revival of O'Neill's *Ah, Wilderness!*.
