Report on the so-called "Buckshot War" when both the Whig and the Democratic parties claimed control of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives, and a mob forced Penrose, Thaddeus Stevens, and Thomas H. Burrowes to escape from the Senate chamber through a window. The Pennsylvania Governor called out the militia, requisitioning buckshot and restoring order.
