Modest erosion to the paper at the spine ends and to the front board, still a sound and attractive, very good copy. Apparently the fact that the U.S. was at war with Britain excused the false imprint of the American publisher.

British essayist, poet, novelist, dramatist, and eccentric, notable for his graceful and lively writing style. - Merriam-Webster's Encyclopedia of Literature His best known works include the novel The Vicar of Wakefield (1766) and the play She Stoops to Conquer (1771). He is also believed by some scholars to have written the children's tale "The History of Little Goody Two-Shoes," which popularized the term for an annoyingly virtuous person.more
