From the preface: *It is a matter of general knowledge that almost every year, not only among the travelers and tourists, but also in the public press, complaints are published, the very quintessence of which pertains to the alleged exorbitant prices charged at the hotels. In most of these cases, even if not all of them, it will be found on enquiry that these complaints arise from the fact that the travelers had simply wandered into hotels of a higher rank, than their circumstances would warrant, or that, in all probability, they demand more from the hotels, than their money outlays justify them in expecting. The aim of this little book is.... to facilitate the choice of a hotel or pension to the traveler...*.
