First trade edition, preceded only by a signed limited edition of two hundred and one copies. Near fine with very light soiling to extreme tops of boards in a very good dustwrapper with some chipping to the top of the front panel and some considerable soiling to the rear panel. The play adapted from this novel won the Pulitzer and continues to be produced. It was filmed several times, as an early partly-sound film in 1929, notably by James Whale in 1936, and again by George Sidney in 1951.
