Text and story of the Pulitzer Prize-winning play *The Subject Was Roses* that originally featured Jack Albertson, Irene Daily, and Martin Sheen. Sheen and Albertson reprised their roles for the 1968 Gilroy-scripted film version, with Patricia Neal replacing Daily and featuring songs by Judy Collins and Sandy Denny. Albertson won a Best Supporting Actor Oscar, Neal, recovering from a near fatal stroke, was nominated for Best Actress.
