Boston: Little Brown and Company, 1932.
Hardcover. reprint. Illustrated with stills from the play. Tiny ownership signature of Tony Award-winning actress Marian Seldes on the front fly, spotting on the boards, a few tiny pencil notes by Seldes in text, about very good in near fine dustwrapper. A complex psychological play about Elizabeth Barrett Browning and her over-protective (and possibly incestuous) father's attempts to stifle her love life. Basis for two excellent film versions, both directed by Sidney Franklin (a not uncommon feat in the days of silent film, but almost unheard of in the sound era). The first was made in 1934 with Norma Shearer, Fredric March, Charles Laughton and Margaret Sullivan, the second in 1957 with Jennifer Jones, John Gielgud, Bill Travers and Virginia McKenna.
