A collection of 21 original pieces of Signed art from Arthur Hawkins, Jr. (1903-1985), celebrated book jacket illustrator and designer, which includes original dustwrapper paintings, original dry point illustrations, pencil and pen drawings, scratchboard illustrations, an airbrushed image, and a binder of 55 partial dustwrappers of his work, including one unused jacket proof. Hawkins is a true legend of jacket design who created some of the most stunning covers of the '30s, '40s and '50s, including James Cain’s *The Postman Always Rings Twice*, John O'Hara's *Butterfield 8* and William Faulkner’s *Light in August*. Highlights of this collection include original jacket art for Royce Brier’s *Last Boat from Beyrouth*, an unidentified jacket featuring a shadowy figure creeping around a darkened town; eight original dry point caricatures of Edith Wharton, Sherwood Anderson, Carl Van Doren, and other American literati; an unused proof for Josiah Thompson’s *Six Seconds in Dallas*, along with 55 other jackets including Arthur C. Clarke’s *A Fall of Moondust*, Philip K. Dick’s *Time Out of Joint*, Ross Macdonald’s *The Far Side of the Dollar*, John Steinbeck’s *Bombs Away*, and Donald E.
