Collecting tips:

In his youth Foote was a protege of William Faulkner's, and the latter's reluctance to sign books rubbed off on the younger author. We have heard more than one anecdote of Foote refusing to sign books for aquaintences (even "famous" acquaintences), generally making exceptions only for "friends." Consequently signed books are scarce, and collectors should be appropriately critical of the authenticity of his autograph in a trade edition, particularly if it is not part of an inscription to someone Foote knew well.
