Wuthering Heights

New York: Harper and Brothers, 1848.

Sold

Hardcover. First American edition. Publisher's brown cloth, decorated and embossed in blind, and decorated and titled in gilt on the spine. Contemporary owner's name of Edwin Troxley Freedley ("E.T. Freedley May 12 / 48"), lacks the rear free endpaper, spine cloth worn down to the text block at the crown, some evidence (albeit small) of repair to the cloth on the spine, some foxing in the text, a good copy. Freedley was a Philadelphia-born author, mostly on business and technological subjects, particularly his important and bestselling *Practical Treatise on Business* (1852). A realistic alternative for collectors seeking the British edition, of which only a handful of copies have been offered in the past three decades, and which costs in excess of $150,000 when found.
