(Photo Album: Leyton Public Library)
Original photo album with materials tipped-in, compiled as a gift to a patron or librarian. Oblong quarto, 21 tipped-in black and white photographs, also tipped-in typescript, newspaper article and booklet, black cloth, with hand-calligraphed title page: "To Miss Doris M. Savage / With / The Best Wishes / of / The Staff / of / The Leyton Public Libraries / Wednesday, April 12th, 1950 / To Remember a Happy Partnership / May 1949 - April 1950". Covers rubbed at extremities, else near fine copy. The photos are mostly of the Leyton Library and its patrons and staff. Many depict the activities sponsored by the library: readings, discussion groups, story hour for children. The typescript and over half of the photos were used for a published booklet, which is also included (The Borough of Leyton Public Libraries: A Family Affair, Leyton Public Libraries, 1950). The newspaper clipping concerns a Leyton librarian, E. Sydney, who received an important post at the United Nations.
