The Open Boat First edition. Tiny crease to the corner of a few pages near the end of the book, and the silver decoration a trifle worn at the base of the spine, a nice, near fine copy with boards designed by American Arts and Crafts designer Will Bradley. An important collection of stories including the title story, a masterpiece of naturalism based on Crane's own harrowing experience of being shipwrecked while on his way to cover the war in Cuba (an experience which probably once and for all destroyed his already fragile health). The collection also includes "The Bride Comes to Yellow Sky" which was the basis for one-half of the two-part film Face to Face featuring Robert Preston. Increasingly scarce. [BTC #95814] |
