BARRY, Philip
Holiday
Fourth printing. Endpapers slightly tanned from paper laid in, a very good copy in near fine dustwrapper. Inscribed by the author: "To H.S.H. from Philip Barry." Additionally this copy is signed by the dedicatee, Hope Williams, who played the lead in the original Broadway production. One of Barry's biggest hits. One of the characters in the play, Nick Potter, was based on Barry's friend Donald Ogden Stewart, and Barry cajoled him into playing the part. According to Brendan Gill in his New Yorker profile of Barry, "Stewart received much praise for his skill in depicting himself." Additionally Stewart wrote the screenplay for the 1939 screen version that featured Katharine Hepburn and Cary Grant.
