The Monument First edition. Fine in fine dustwrapper. Inscribed by the author to Australian poet R. F. Brissenden: "for Bob Brissenden (turn to 32) Abrazos, Mark Strand." On page 32 Strand has written after a poem: "my tribute to Australia. Not much, I guess. But then this book...This book...what does one say? (turn to 49)." On page 49, Strand has underlined the phrase "I have no apologies" and written: "no apologies except for...(turn to acknowledgements)." At the end of the acknowledgements Strand has written: "My careless publisher left off my acknowledgements to the Guggenheim Foundation and The Australia Council." A nice copy, with interesting associative inscriptions. [BTC #88591] |
