[Pamphlet]: Memorial Souvenir. Frederick Douglass Memorial Hospital and Training School... Founder's Day Celebration Commorating the Unveiling of Tablet in honor of the Fund Raised Through the Public Ledger. November 25th, 1912
Printed stapled wrappers. (24)pp. Illustrated from photographs. Small tears at the top of the yapped edges, a couple of tiny stains on the front wrap, a very good or better example. The hospital, named after Douglass, was founded by African-American Dr. Nathan F. Mossell. This pamphlet commemorates a successful fund raising drive, including a bequest from John Lux, a black working man, who left $6500 to the hospital. The Douglass Memorial Hospital served a predominantly African-American patient population, and instituted the first approved Negro nurse training school in Philadelphia. Douglass later merged with Mercy Hospital, and eventually closed in 1973. Very scarce.
