Four Facsimile Broadsides from the film *Glory,* one handwritten
Three printed facsimile Civil War broadsides used in the film Glory. A fourth is the "manuscript" from which one of the printed broadside was made. The broadside are: 1] The handwritten manuscript reads: "Proclamation. Any negro taken in arms against the Confederacy will immediately be returned to a state of slavery. Any negro taken in Federal uniform will be summarily put to death. Any white officer taken in command of negro troops shall be deemed as inciting servile insurrection and shall likewise be put to death. By order of the Congress, Confederate States of America. April 10th, 1863." 2] A printed copy of the previous item. 3] Regulations for Camp Readville. 4] The Enemy is Approaching! This final broadside appears to be a facsimile from the American Antiquarian Society. All display modest wear, and are very good to near fine. These were used on the set of the 1989 film Glory, directed by Edward Zwick, and based on the letters and experiences of Robert Gould Shaw and the famous all-black 54th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry. The film won Academy Awards for Best Cinematography, Sound, and Supporting Actor (Denzel Washington).
