Jealousy

New York: Samuel French, 1932.

Price: $150.00

Softcover. First edition. Adapted from a play by Louis Verneuil. Rubber price stamp on front wrapper, else fine in wrappers. The 1929 film version was initially shot with Jeanne Eagels and Anthony Bushell in the leads. However, Eagels, a celebrated beauty and then a huge star, demanded that the film be reshot with Fredric March in the lead. Long battling drug and alcohol problems, she fell seriously ill while filming the second version and died later that year of a heroin overdose. Both versions of the film are now lost. Eagels' story was whitewashed a bit in a 1957 film biography starring Kim Novak.
