Now, Voyager First edition. Contemporary gift inscription and owner name stamp, modest wear at the spine ends, an about very good copy in a good plus, edgeworn and price-clipped dustwrapper with shallow chipping at the spine ends. Novel of a repressed woman who sets out on a cruise to discover freedom and life. Basis for the film featuring Bette Davis, Paul Henreid, and two cigarettes. Reportedly Davis, who took then-unheard-of chances with the role by deliberately gaining weight and foregoing makeup, extensively reworked the original screenplay herself, incorporating more of the novel's dialogue. Though she missed the Oscar, the movie was Davis's most successful film of the decade. A nice, presentable copy of an exceptionally scarce novel. [BTC #82488] |
