First English edition. Near fine, with light offsetting to the endpapers, foxing to the top foredge, in a near fine price-clipped dustwrapper with chipping to the spine and flap folds. Author's third novel, about a pugnacious doctor tending his flock in a gritty Brooklyn neighborhood. Basis for the excellent film with Paul Muni (in his last role) as the doctor.
