Small notebook leaf Inscribed by "Ellery Queen" (in the hand of Frederick Dannay) in 1936 First edition. Small leaf with three precut punchholes, with a small, faint stain, and folded once, else fine. Inscribed by Dannay: "July 30, 1936. To R. Becker -- Faithfully, 'Ellery Queen.'" Brooklyn-born cousins Dannay and Lee entered a mystery story contest in 1928, creating a pseudonym as per the contest's instructions. Ingeniously they made the pseudonymous author also their protagonist, and Queen soon became a household name as detective, author, editor, anthologist, film hero, and, perhaps most importantly, encourager of new mystery authors.
