Arizona

New York: Harper and Brothers, 1939.

Price: $500.00

Hardcover. First edition. Fine in a very good, spine-faded dustwrapper with a few small chips, mostly on the front panel, and several internal mends. Inscribed by the author to Henry Tatnall Brown in 1940. Basis for the 1940 film directed by Wesley Ruggles and starring William Holden and Jean Arthur as the first female citizen of Tucson, a hellcat with a heart of gold. A meticulously researched, big-budget epic, Columbia Pictures was able to recoup some of the cost by reusing elements as stock footage in many of its subsequent B-programmers.
