First paperback edition, and first edition under this title of the author's first book (originally published in hardcover in 1948 as The Road Through the Wall). Near fine in lightly worn wrappers. Inscribed by the author to her in-laws, the parents of her husband (and the dedicatee of this book), Stanley Edgar Hyman: "For Lulu and Dad with all my love -- Shirley." The recipients were, along with her own parents, the dedicatees of her book Life Among the Savages.
