Epic romance novel about an American girl's heroism towards those she loved in German-occupied Belgium. Hughes, uncle of Howard Hughes, was a prolific early screenwriter. This novel was the basis for the 1919 Marshall Neilan-directed film featuring Blanche Sweet, Edwin Stevens, and Wallace Beery. Very scarce in jacket.
