The Double Man First edition (preceding the U.K. edition). Front fly lacking (apparently for some time, as a small newspaper photo of Auden affixed to the facing half-title has offset on the front pastedown), light wear to the spine ends, else very good lacking the dustwrapper. Inscribed by Auden to English travel writer Norman Lewis: "Norman Lewis with best wishes from Wystan Auden." Additionally Auden has made a few small corrections in the text. Another member of the Lewis family, Robert Heverington Lewis, has signed his own name above the inscription. Lewis is perhaps the best known English travel writer of the past century. Auden, although much more prolific as a poet, also tried his hand at travel writing in Letters from Iceland. [BTC #75695] |
