SPEWACK, Sam and Bella
My 3 Angels
First edition. Fine in fine dustwrapper with just the slightest of tanning to the spine. Nicely Inscribed by the authors: "For Cedric Adams Who we heard over the air and enjoyed and whose column we occasionally get to read when the Minne. Star advertises -- From Two Authors to Another, Sam & Bella Spewack. Feb. 12, 1954." The inscription appears to be all in the hand of Bella, with the words "Sam &" the only exception. Adams was one of the best known radio broadcasters in the upper Midwest, headquartered in Minneapolis/St. Paul. While writing his daily newspaper column and doing twenty radio shows each week, Adams did newscasts for WCCO TV Minneapolis/Saint Paul, appeared on television substituting for his friend Arthur Godfrey as host of Talent Scouts, and appeared live from his home on Edward R. Murrow's Person to Person. The play, directed by Jose Ferrer, ran for 344 performances on Broadway with a cast featuring Walter Slezak and Henry Daniell. The play was the basis for the 1989 Neil Jordan film We're No Angels with Robert De Niro and Sean Penn as escaped convicts mistaken for priests.
