CAMP, Walter
Danny Fists
First edition. Corners and foot of the spine a bit rubbed, white spine lettering rubbed but readable, a very good or a bit better copy lacking the rare dustwrapper. Inscribed by the author: "Mortimer Doolittle from his friend Walter Camp." A novel that revolves around football. Camp was the Coach of the Yale football team and probably did more than anyone else to popularize the game and to shape the rules as they now stand including cutting the number of players to 11 (from 15), instituting the quarterback position, creating a scrimmage to institute play (rather than a "scrum") and designing the "gridiron" pattern of the field. Additionally he was probably the first national figure to promote personal physical fitness, especially during the First World War.
